Always Make Time For Friends and RVing Isn’t As Scary As It Seems

January 27, 2009 – 10:46pm

We have friends down here in Yuma. They have been at Quartzsite all week for the RV show and returned to the RV park today. One is an independent lady that you just can’t keep down. She is a hot ticket…I love her independence. She has been full timing in a RV for the past 6 years (I think), her husband passed away three years ago and she has taken over the steering wheel solo ever since. We asked her where she was off to next, her answer “Don’t know yet”, we asked her if she was coming back to Yuma next winter, her answer “Don’t know yet”, we asked her if she wanted to go spend sometime in Texas, her answer, you  know it, “Don’t know yet”. I love that, you can’t imagine how much I ate that sense independence right up. But it’s true, when you are in an RV, you have a home on wheels. You don’t like your neighbor, move. You don’t like the area (lack of shopping convenience, too much traffic, etc), move. I most likely will never own an actual normal house, I just prefer to be rolling in a condo on wheels. And I will slap that sticker on the back of that baby saying “Home is where you park it”. Some people have emailed me in the past and asked if I’m this way because I get bored easily. Sure! You can call it that. I want to see everything, everywhere. Yesterday I watched a show on TV about the Alaska Marine Highway System, you’ve got to watch the videos on their website at the bottom of their home page (a ferry system you can put your RV on and travel from Washington state to Alaska, I was on the seat’s edge thru the whole preview). I got some emails in the past saying that this life is “dangerous” and they could never cross out of their comfort zone. I answered back, “Hey, no problem, just follow along with the many other RVer’s blogs”  There are other RVer’s blogs that I follow such as my pal Nick who is a fulltimer with his wife Terry and is in Texas right now and is heading to Arizona to run his Winter RV rally! You can catch up with him at http://gypsyjournal.net/blog/. There are a handful of others I also follow such as Rex and Mary’s blog http://www.rexandmary.blogspot.com/ and Work For RVers And Campers blog http://www.work-for-rvers-and-campers.com/work-for-RVers-and-campers-blog.html. I could list 15 more RV blogs that I follow, if you are interested in reading about other RVer’s journeys, just email me at dpjake11002@aol.com and I’ll pass that list on to you. Or drop me an email to say Hello. My email inbox has been pretty quiet this week. :)
So what did I do today? We slept late and went to visit our friends all day. I love good company. We all made plans to go to Mexico together and go to bingo together and maybe do a day trip to California. I’ve never been to California before. We are in Yuma for another month, so we have plenty of time to cover alot of ground here in the southwest. This evening we got back home (RV = home, I love it) and watched some good TV shows tonight. We don’t normally spend alot of time in front of the TV, but that wind outside has sure picked up in the last 24 hours and tomorrow it is suppose to be “very breezy” out according to the weather on the local news channel. No swimming pool time and a quick walk for Jake. So tomorrow, we will be giving Jake a bath and I’ll be doing some hanging around the RV. I see that 2 miles away from here is a Barnes and Nobles and I have two gift cards to there from Christmas!! I love Barnes and Nobles, I could spend hours there, so if I venture outside the RV park gates tomorrow, it will be to get some neat new books to get lost in. Well, have a great night and thanks for checking on me! :)
