Mexico, Casino, Bingo!

Feb 15, 2009 – 10:02pm

Hi! Today was an early day for me. UGH. We all started our day crossing the Mexico border by 8am. Why? To avoid the long lines of snowbirds coming out of Mexico from noon to the late afternoon. Right from when Mexico opens it’s doors to sell liquor, no matter how fast you buy your liquor, you are going to stand in long line to get back into the United States. So we walked around the quiet city of Algodones at the crack of dawn. I found a pretty decent article about Algodones if you want to know more information about this little town – click here. So we looked around enjoying the morning and stopped at the bakery. Yummy. The bakery has a variety of delicious muffins, donuts, and breads. I splurged on a donut. We left Mexico by 9:30 with no line to stand in to get out of Mexico. When you leave the parking lot, where we leave the car on the United States side of the border, there is only one small road back to I-8. And when you get to the I-8, the new casino sits pretty right there at the junction. So, of course we stopped. You knew that! We enjoyed their breakfast buffet for $4.99 (no taxes included). I wasn’t that hungry, but I enjoyed a few delicious treats off the breakfast bar. Most of the buffets that I’ve been to usually includes the coffee in with the price of the buffet. Well, there were 4 of us today and two being coffee drinkers. So I ordered a hot tea and my mom ordered a soda. Well, when we went to pay (yeah, pay for a buffet after you eat, but that a different story), but when we went to pay, they charge $1.50  for the coffee and all other drinks (soda, hot tea, juice, etc) are free with your buffet. I’ve been to a large percentage of of casinos nationwide and never heard of this policy before. Well, I thought the whole thing was funny and I had a big smile on my face. I’ve just never heard of this before. Well, the coffee drinkers weren’t too impressed about the buffet drink policy which just made the whole thing even funnier. They didn’t make a stink about it, but you can see the smug look on their faces. Hehe. So we managed to get through that ok. We stayed at the casino until 1pm and I left ahead of the game with a $120 dollar profit. They haven’t tightened up those slot machines yet! After the casino, we came back to the RV and just relaxed watching the Daytona 500 for the afternoon. At 7pm, mom and I strolled over to the recreational hall here at the RV Park for the bingo game in which my mom got bingo, a prize of $14 dollars. So overall, it was a great day! I just keep thinking that I would love to have that 1993 movie “Groundhogs Day” happen to me right about now! Have a good night and I’ll be back to bug you tomorrow! 🙂
