Destination – somewhere in Texas

Feb 21, 2009 – 9:44pm (hmmmm, central time now *smile*)

Hello! We made it to Mission, Texas. We left Yuma, Arizona on Thursday at 10am and stayed in El Paso Thursday night at the Sunland Park Casino and Racetrack. We went to the casino – lousy casino – so small and cramped inside the casino. Very small casino, maybe 100 slot machines. The parking lot has 10 hookups sites and good luck getting one. When we pulled in all the hookup sites were taken and there were four RVs parked along the fence, so we lined up against the fence too for the night. We went to the casino for a little while, nothing to brag about there, BUT, I must say that if you want some live horse racing action, you would find it there. It’s from 11am to 4pm, we got there at 7pm. The next morning we woke up at 5:30am to 32 degrees outside and to the sound of horses galloping around the track with their trainers. We left there and Friday night we stayed in the Eagle Pass Casino parking lot. Now, THIS is something to talk about. We pulled in and didn’t know what to expect but we found about 15 RVs backed up against the fence in the casino parking lot. We drove up near the RVs to see what the deal was here. Do we pay, do we park? So a man hops out of his little travel trailer and starts waving us over to him. So we drove the whole 20 feet to meet him half way and he asks us how long are we staying. So we inform him that we are only here for one night. He says, “Oh, Okay, good, these’s are all free hookups (electricity only) here and I am saving this spot here (he points to the spot next to his camper) for my friend coming into to town next week but if you are only staying one night, feel free to make yourself at home for the night. But, there’s only condition to staying here for free……you must spend money in the casino.” HA! He doesn’t know us, does he??? I liked this place. It’s in the woods, in the middle of no where, 15 miles off the highway. You hook your camper up to the free electricity (yep, 50 amp) and there’s a dump station in the same parking lot on the other side if you need it. You can stay as long as you want. My thoughts: If you want to hide from the government, I found the perfect place. Free camping, no name, no address, no phone (my cell phone had no service available), no town for more than 10 miles aways. Yeah, go ahead and hide, no one will find you here. The place is pretty safe too, there are enough lights in the RV area to make it look like daytime, the police station is 1 mile away, and the casino security circles the parking lot every 15 minutes on a golf cart. The casino is small and will hold your attention for a couple of hours easily. I found some slot machines that I was winning on. They had a neat bakery there where I bought an apple danish for 2 bucks…..free soda against the wall, grab a cup and fill it up. Okay, so the next morning, we didn’t freeze and left very happy with the stopover. At 2pm, we pulled into Mission, Texas. We have family down here (my aunt and uncle) as snowbirds, they were expecting us and they found us on Route 83 in Mission and we followed them into their RV park where they had already reserved a place for us for a couple of weeks. So we backed the Montana into the spot and went to visit their “home”, they have a double wide nice home with porches and a separate storage shed with their Monaco Coach parking right next to it. Nice place! They are walking distance from where our RV site is. So we went to visit them for the evening and they fed us – another homemade meal! Yippee! And now I’m here updating my blog. Tomorrow I will take my camera around the RV Park and show y’all around……hee hee, y’all 🙂 Hey, when in Rome……hee hee! I’ve got to catch some sleep, way over tired. I’ll be back tomorrow with pictures! 🙂 Nite Nite!
