Annual Car Show in Mission, Texas

Feb 28, 2009 – 7:45pm

Today we went to the annual car show here in Mission, Texas. Wow, great car show too! The temperature was nice, sitting at 74 degrees most of the day with a breezy…..sooooo nice. Okay, the car show…..I’ve got pictures :)……

Alot of pictures, huh? That was so much fun! After the car show we stopped by my aunt and uncle’s house, here at the RV Park,  and played cards. They are trying to teach me how to play “Spades”. No, I don’t know how to play Spades or any other card games, I’ve never been a card player, but they are  teaching me and it’s so much fun!!

But that’s all for today. Hey, the pictures says it all, right! 🙂 I’m not sure what we are doing tomorrow, but I hope you all have a great weekend! 🙂 Nite Nite!

Today’s Temperature

Feb 27, 2009 – 9:47pm

Hello! It’s hard for me to believe it’s February sometimes. I mean, I write Feb on my blog posts everyday, but I really feel awkward doing that when the digital temperature in the pick up today showed 99 degrees. 99 degrees!!! I couldn’t believe it. We got the truck rolling out of the driveway and the digital reading fell to 95 degrees and didn’t fall much further than that. It felt like 99 degrees too – we’ve got the air conditioner on in the RV set for 74 degrees and the inside temperature of the RV didn’t fall lower than 85 degrees. So what did we do today…….

This morning, we got up super early, and went to the $3 dollar breakfast special that they were offering at this RV Park recreational hall from 7:30 to 8:30…..yeah, don’t ask what time I got up, it actually hurt. So we made it to the breakfast special which included pancakes, ham, apple sauce, and orange juice. Good breakfast too! The rest of the morning, I didn’t do much, checked email, typical stuff that I normally do throughout the day.

There’s a golf course at this RV Park with a restaurant inside the golf course club house. So, we had lunch today there, they had a Friday special, “Cheeseburger, fries, and soda for $5.50”. I told you we weren’t spending alot of money here. Price is right and the food was pretty good. I couldn’t even finish my fries!

The rest of the day we spent time with my aunt and uncle. They have a great attitude about retirement and it shows when they talk. Happy all the time, hey, and I can understand. So we all went to Wal-mart today. I didn’t buy anything, didn’t really need anything at all, but I went for the ride. Simple day…..simple, hot day.

Completed my day by relaxing outside in the lawn chair with Jake. He loves it outside. There was a breezy going through the RV Park around 6pm and his little black nose was sniffing up that cool air. There is an antique car show tomorrow in here in Mission, Texas. Not sure if I’ll go or not. Hey, it’s the life of an RVer, no plans until we feel like doing something. 🙂 Have a great night. I’ll be back to yap tomorrow!

PS: Did you see the results of my Poll Question? You can see the results, click “View Results” right under the four answers. You guys are all over the place with your answers!! WOW!! I love it!!

Poll Question, Craft Fair, and Dinner Plans!

Feb 26, 2009 – 1:12pm

Hello! Okay, we’ve got another poll up and running! Come on, give me your vote on my poll question, don’ t be shy! 🙂 The last poll didn’t go that well, but I’ll run thru the answers real quick…….

My poll question was: “My weekends consist of:”. It was a sad outcome with only 11 people answering the poll. Come on, I’ve got more blog readers than that *Big Smile*, okay, the answers……..
1 person celebrates their weekends with big plans getting the most out of the 48 hours!
2 people love staying home and relaxing – I think I was one of those people!
1 person is so busy playing catch up from the week, that person doesn’t even see the weekend. Boy, oh boy!
6 people have a healthy balance of weekend enjoyment. So happy to hear that!
1 person works on the weekends. I can totally relate, I worked weekends for years!

Thank you for everyone that took part in that *not so popular* poll question, BUT now I’ve got a new poll question up and I want to hear from you!!! 🙂

This morning I got up super early! The craft fair/show/etc whatever you want to call it started at 8am at the RV Park next door at their recreational hall and we went with my aunt and uncle. I didn’t think I would buy anything, but there were some neat things there you won’t find in stores. I bought a cloth southwestern theme check book cover. I don’t have a check book cover, when I bought my checks, the checkbook cover was $21, I don’t think so! So I got a neat, cute one today for $3 bucks. It was great and my mom found her four slicer toaster cover for $1 dollar.

Tonight we have tickets to go to the beef dinner at the recreational hall here at this RV Park at 4pm. That should be alot of fun! So that’s our big plans for the evening. I might go the pool later after I  eat dinner. The temperature here is….wow…..87 degrees. I’m loving this. It’s just like summer in New Hampshire. As for Jake, if he gets any lazier………..

Isn’t he too cute!! Well, I’ll leave you alone for now 🙂 Have a great night! OH, and don’t forget to take a second to answer my poll question……bye!

Internet and Bingo

Feb 25, 2009 – 9:07pm

Well, I didn’t do much today at all. This morning I didn’t do anything. This afternoon I didn’t do anything but surfed the internet. This evening I went to Bingo here at the RV Park Recreational Hall with mom. I’ve gotten a few emails in the past when I don’t do much with my day saying that I must be bored! Far from the truth. It’s nice to have some down time. I like sitting in the lawn chair outside watching people walk by saying Hi, everyone in this RV Park is sooooo friendly! Yesterday when I was in the swimming pool here at the park, 14 people in the pool wanted me to join in on their pool volleyball game. Everyone is great here. But, I’ve noticed that life is simple here. I’ve never seen such a simple RV Park. I’ve seen people ride their golf carts around the park saying Hi to people sitting outside, I ‘ve seen people playing cards outside, people even take their golf cart to the local pizza restaurant. Since I’ve been here, hmmmm, I got here Saturday morning and now it’s Wednesday night and I’ve spent $4 dollars total so far since I’ve been here. There is no Walmart next door, it’s 3 miles down the road. Life is simple and life is cheap living here. Today my mom went to a beauty salon, got her hair cut and colored, for $26 bucks! Back home that same color and cut would be close to $70 bucks. There are things to do around the city, go to Mexico (which we will be doing soon), South Padre Island is 70 miles away from me, there are four flea markets in the local area, and there are plenty of shopping plazas around (that reminds me that I have to check out the neighborhood Barnes and Nobles). So, no, I’m not bored, I’m taking it easy, relaxing, and loving life. I didn’t do much today and every now and again, everyone loves a “kick back and relax” day. Tomorrow morning we are going to the craft fair here at the RV Park recreation hall. RVers bring together alot of handy, homemade craft items they make. We are currently looking for a toaster cover for our 4 slice toaster. Just maybe someone in this RV Park makes them, you never know the talent around here. Then tomorrow evening we are going to the beef dinner here at the RV Park. So it will be a local entertaining day tomorrow. Thanks for checking on me again! 🙂 Have a great day!

Flea Market in Mission, Texas

Feb 24, 2009 – 2:02pm

Today we went to the Flea Market, one of many Flea Markets in the area. This one we went to today is only open Tuesdays and Fridays and very busy if you get there after 10am. We got there at 9am when they opened the doors. There were five of us that went which includes my aunt and uncle. Let’s look at some pictures……..

Awwww, this is not a Jake friendly place…..we left him home anyways……

They were selling everything here.  We bought a watermelon……

Here’s some more pictures of the Flea Market……..

I should of asked how much a bird was………anyone want a pet bird??

Now four of THESE would look good on my 06 Ford Explorer….nice……..

And my dad bought this but wanted to try it out make sure it worked okay before parting with the expensive tag on it of $5.00.

It’s always good to have a spare electric heat in a camper. I mean, after we leave here, it’s all north bound from here on out…..and it’s only going to get colder……..

Well, that’s what we did this morning. This afternoon, we are going swimming in the pool at this RV Park and we already bought passes to go to the beef dinner they are having Thursday night. OH, and I found out that Bingo here is Wednesday night, so now, I’m a happy camper! Have a great day – I’ll be back tomorrow! 🙂

Everything Is Bigger In Texas

Feb 23, 2009 – 7:21pm

Today we did a couple of things. Such nice weather out! We drove down to the border of Mexico (but didn’t cross into Mexico) but we saw the new big wall that the USA is building to keep the Mexicans out. This wall will go from Texas to California and is huge…….

Here at this end of Texas, they don’t have to build it so high because the Rio Grande river is right behind it, but near El Paso it will be three times at high as the one they are building here…….Let’s see how close my nifty new camera can get…..

Yep, they are working hard……Cement wall then tall rods and then more cement…..

What a camera!! Doesn’t miss anything……..

Then we came back home (“home” is where we park it!) and we walked over to our neighbor friends we have here and there was 9 of us all sitting in patio chairs under a high metal roof shading us from the sun (it was 79 degrees today) and yapping and talking and B.S.ing, hee hee, I love hanging out and our friends are great, we had a platter of different potato chips and pretzels and we had some kind of delicious tropical concoction!! Wow, that stuff is pretty good. It has Peach Schnapps, Rum, Chambord, and fruit juice with a drop of Grenadine with a slice of orange. Yummy!! I told our friends that made it to bring the pitcher over to me and I’ll just stick a straw in it. He just laughed…..I wonder why he didn’t take me seriously?? *Big Smile* I don’t know the name of the drink, if anyone knows the name of this drink, drop me an email and let me know exactly how to make it, email me at dpjake11002@aol.com.

While we were there, our neighbors have some lemon trees, so we got ourselves a lemon……and y’all, in Texas a lemon is no small lemon…….I put it up against Jake and a tissue box to have you see just how big this lemon is……

Tomorrow we will cut it open and see how much juice we can get out of it! Well, that’s what we did today. Tomorrow we are off to the flea market in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon. I hope everyone has a nice day! Night, Night!! 🙂

First Whole Day In Mission, Texas

Feb 22, 2009

First whole day in Mission, Texas and I’ve got to say…..this is one neat place!! I’ve been here before four years ago, it still looks the same, the people are still friendly, and it’s huge……there are 8 RV Parks back to back here with about 500 sites in each RV Park (I was told). Golf carts are the main transportation around here traveling down the side streets hopping park to park, people traveling everywhere in their golf cart. It’s like a mini town here. First thing I did when I got here was I gave Jake a personalized hair cut and it came out pretty good too. He was awfully shaggy and the weather channel is threatening to give us 85 to 90 degree weather all next week……so I took most of the fur off Jake. He’s is a happy camper now! Let’s back up a little bit. Let’s take a look at some pictures of the trip over here………..

We came across three border patrol inspection stations. We just stop and say Hi to the officer and he waved us on….

This is most of the scenery on our way to Texas….

We stopped to have lunch and I found a Dinosaur!!!

After lunch – back on the road. Got to love the beauty of this country…..

Another pit stop to relax and walk around……..

And we are on our way again…..what do we have here??

I guess you have to transport them someway…..

We made it!!!! We are at Hidden Valley RV Park……Both the family and friends that we have here are of walking distance from our site…..

Here’s the recreational hall. There’s a pool….the pool is half outside and half inside to shade half the pool….it just has a roof over half the pool…..I’ll be in the pool this week……

This is just a picture of this RV Park. There is everything here….modular homes, RV sites, brick homes…..

My aunt and uncle lives at the end of this road, this is only 200 feet from our RV site……
They have a nice home and they love it down here. They own the home and the land (some lots you can’t own the land).

There is eleven ceiling fans in this home and two of them are outside on the side porch and two of them are outside on the back porch – it’s all about comfort here. OH, and sitting on the porch, you can see the huge golf course right next door. I was watching golf carts driving around the golf course and lot of people playing golf…..A new hobby for me?? I’ll have to mosey on over to the golf course and try my luck at golf….

Oh, there’s their motorhome, nice huh?

And we have friends here, our friends are three RV lots over from us. Nice people!! They love to play cards….

This is our street. We live on Bogey Street. All the streets here are named after something to do with golfing…..

Well, this is where we sit for a couple of weeks. We will be going to Mexico and a couple of other entertaining places around here. I’ll bring my camera!! It was a long ride down here but so worth it. I’ll get more pictures tomorrow, have a good night! OH, one more thing – I am still get votes for my poll on this page so I’ll keep it posted for a few more days. I do have another question ready and will be posted by the end of the week! 🙂

Destination – somewhere in Texas

Feb 21, 2009 – 9:44pm (hmmmm, central time now *smile*)

Hello! We made it to Mission, Texas. We left Yuma, Arizona on Thursday at 10am and stayed in El Paso Thursday night at the Sunland Park Casino and Racetrack. We went to the casino – lousy casino – so small and cramped inside the casino. Very small casino, maybe 100 slot machines. The parking lot has 10 hookups sites and good luck getting one. When we pulled in all the hookup sites were taken and there were four RVs parked along the fence, so we lined up against the fence too for the night. We went to the casino for a little while, nothing to brag about there, BUT, I must say that if you want some live horse racing action, you would find it there. It’s from 11am to 4pm, we got there at 7pm. The next morning we woke up at 5:30am to 32 degrees outside and to the sound of horses galloping around the track with their trainers. We left there and Friday night we stayed in the Eagle Pass Casino parking lot. Now, THIS is something to talk about. We pulled in and didn’t know what to expect but we found about 15 RVs backed up against the fence in the casino parking lot. We drove up near the RVs to see what the deal was here. Do we pay, do we park? So a man hops out of his little travel trailer and starts waving us over to him. So we drove the whole 20 feet to meet him half way and he asks us how long are we staying. So we inform him that we are only here for one night. He says, “Oh, Okay, good, these’s are all free hookups (electricity only) here and I am saving this spot here (he points to the spot next to his camper) for my friend coming into to town next week but if you are only staying one night, feel free to make yourself at home for the night. But, there’s only condition to staying here for free……you must spend money in the casino.” HA! He doesn’t know us, does he??? I liked this place. It’s in the woods, in the middle of no where, 15 miles off the highway. You hook your camper up to the free electricity (yep, 50 amp) and there’s a dump station in the same parking lot on the other side if you need it. You can stay as long as you want. My thoughts: If you want to hide from the government, I found the perfect place. Free camping, no name, no address, no phone (my cell phone had no service available), no town for more than 10 miles aways. Yeah, go ahead and hide, no one will find you here. The place is pretty safe too, there are enough lights in the RV area to make it look like daytime, the police station is 1 mile away, and the casino security circles the parking lot every 15 minutes on a golf cart. The casino is small and will hold your attention for a couple of hours easily. I found some slot machines that I was winning on. They had a neat bakery there where I bought an apple danish for 2 bucks…..free soda against the wall, grab a cup and fill it up. Okay, so the next morning, we didn’t freeze and left very happy with the stopover. At 2pm, we pulled into Mission, Texas. We have family down here (my aunt and uncle) as snowbirds, they were expecting us and they found us on Route 83 in Mission and we followed them into their RV park where they had already reserved a place for us for a couple of weeks. So we backed the Montana into the spot and went to visit their “home”, they have a double wide nice home with porches and a separate storage shed with their Monaco Coach parking right next to it. Nice place! They are walking distance from where our RV site is. So we went to visit them for the evening and they fed us – another homemade meal! Yippee! And now I’m here updating my blog. Tomorrow I will take my camera around the RV Park and show y’all around……hee hee, y’all 🙂 Hey, when in Rome……hee hee! I’ve got to catch some sleep, way over tired. I’ll be back tomorrow with pictures! 🙂 Nite Nite!

Friends, conversations, and a homemade dinner

Feb 17, 2009 – 10:39pm

Well, I’m not going to impress you too much with any wild or new adventures, but it doesn’t matter what new ventures we explore, or neat places we go to, or 100 neat pictures I’ve taken…..nooo, those things don’t come close to what I enjoy most and that is hanging out with great friends, enjoying great conversation, and a homemade delicious dinner. Today, that is what we did. We went to our friend’s RV…..she staying in Yuma about 10 miles away from us in another RV park and yesterday she insisted that she cook dinner for us and, ha, who are we to argue 🙂 So today we stopped by her motorhome at about 2pm (we didn’t do much before that) and sure enough she was already hard at work cooking. And boy, can she cook! We had mashed potatoes, turkey, cranberry sauce, pork pie, vegetables, Mexico bread and two different desserts. After dinner we got the map out and looked at avenues to get to Mission, Texas, making sure we get the most of our trip along the way. That reminds me to charge my camera tomorrow. She was telling us neat things to see along the way and where the casinos were. She knows us oh too well. Then we all watched American Idol from 7 to 9. And Jake was with us the whole time and what a good boy he was, all day laying in the lazy-boy chair. Don’t worry, he got his fair share of turkey too. So today is, to me, what RVing is all about! Tomorrow we will get ready to pack up, fuel up, and hitch up for an early departure on Thursday. It will be a miracle for me to get an internet hot-spot to hook up to, so I’ll leave you alone for a few days. Don’t forget to take my poll on this blog page (right hand side, a little ways down the page). If you scroll down to the blog post below this one, I have listed RV events for March if you are interested in what’s going on in the RVing world. Good night! 🙂

RV Events – RV Shows and RV Rallies…..

Feb 16, 2009 – 11:20pm

Ha, I’m not going to bore you with non-sense. I did the exactly same thing today that I did yesterday. Today, we went to the new Quechan casino near Yuma, Arizona (again), I lost $40 bucks (again) and then we went to Bingo at the Paradise Casino (this time) and I didn’t win (again). So that was the extent of my day today.

This morning, I just walked Jake around the RV park and enjoyed the weather. Everyone is still doing great and I’ve decided to put something a little more useful in today’s blog. Yippee, I know!

Just a FYI…..A “Samboree” is a Good Sam Club RV Rally and there are some listings of other RV Rallies in here and some upcoming RV Shows all for the month of March. If you would like more info on any of these events, send me an email at dpjake11002@aol.com and I will email you back the complete details! 🙂 If you want to join the Good Sam Club, click on the little picture. Have a great day! PS: Don’t think I spent all day doing this RV event listing, I actually had it all filed somewhere else and that “copy and paste” tool on the computer is great!!
